SRD approved but not paid: find the blockage
On this page (3 sections)
An approved SRD month that hasn't paid is almost always one of six causes — and they're ordered below from most to least common. Before anything else: a pay date on your status is when SASSA releases the money; your bank can take 2–3 business days to show it. Approved money is never lost — it waits as backpay until the blockage clears.
Work through these in order
- 1. It's still in transit
Pay date today or yesterday? Wait 2–3 business days before anything else. Payments land in waves, not at midnight.
- 2. No pay date has been set yet
“Approved” without a date means processing isn't finished for the month. Dates appear in batches — re-check your status every few days.
- 3. Your bank details aren't verified
The most common hard blockage. Status shows it explicitly — see bank details pending for the fix. Money accumulates meanwhile.
- 4. The account isn't in your name
Verification silently fails on someone else's account, every time. Submit an account in your own name or switch to cash collection.
- 5. Card or collection problems
Paid to a SASSA/Postbank card that won't work, or a collection SMS that never arrived? See payment methods for the card migration and retail collection rules.
- 6. Something needs a human
All the above clear and still nothing after a week past the pay date: call 0800 60 10 11 with your ID, application ID and pay date at hand, and get a reference number for the query.
Frequently asked questions
The money went to an old account I closed.
Payments to closed accounts bounce back to SASSA and re-issue once you update your details — nothing is lost, but nothing moves until you update.
Everyone around me got paid, I didn't.
SRD has no single national pay day — dates spread across the month per person. Compare statuses, not neighbours. If yours shows a passed date, work the list above.
