How we verify information
On this page (5 sections)
Every figure on SA Benefits — grant amounts, income thresholds, deadlines — is checked against primary government sources before publication and carries a visible last verified date. When reputable sources conflict, or an official figure has not yet been gazetted, we say so openly instead of guessing.
Our source hierarchy
- Government Gazette — the legal source of truth for grant amounts, thresholds and regulations.
- Official agency websites — sassa.gov.za, srd.sassa.gov.za, dsd.gov.za, gov.za, treasury.gov.za.
- Official statements — ministerial announcements, parliamentary replies, court rulings.
- Reputable reporting — used only to flag changes, never as the final source for a figure.
How we label confidence
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Officially confirmed | Verified against a primary government source, with the date shown |
| Reported — awaiting verification* | Widely reported figure we have not yet traced to the Gazette; treat as provisional |
| Awaiting official confirmation | No official figure exists yet; anything you read elsewhere is an estimate |
Figures marked with an asterisk (*) anywhere on this site are in the second category. We would rather show you an honest asterisk than a confident guess — on pages about money, a wrong number can cost a reader their grant.
Known conflicts we are actively verifying
Reputable South African sources currently disagree on several figures, largely because publishers copy each other. We are verifying each against the Government Gazette and will update this page as each is resolved:
- 2026 amounts for the Disability, War Veterans and Foster Child grants (differences of R5–R20 between sources).
- The Older Persons Grant income threshold (two materially different figures circulate).
- Asset thresholds for married applicants.
Corrections
When we get something wrong we fix it, date the fix, and log it publicly on our corrections page. Silent edits are how misinformation spreads; a public log is how trust is built. Spotted an error? Email us at hello@sabenefits.co.za.
