Appeal a declined SRD month free at srd.dsd.gov.za — the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA), not SASSA, decides it. Before you appeal: one decisive step
The SRD appeal form has no upload button — you cannot attach evidence. The Tribunal decides by re-checking the same government databases that declined you. That means your appeal succeeds when the underlying record is corrected: the UI-19 submitted, the NSFAS record closed, the Home Affairs detail fixed. Lodge the appeal, step by step
- Go to srd.dsd.gov.za
This is the DSD appeals portal — a different site from the application portal. Check the .gov.za address.
- Enter your ID and registered phone number
You'll receive a PIN by SMS to confirm it's you.
- Select the declined month
Appeals are per month. Repeat the whole process for each declined month — an appeal for March does nothing for April.
- Choose your reason for appealing
Pick the option that matches your situation (e.g. the income identified was not mine / my employment ended). Be truthful — the databases are re-checked.
- Submit and record the reference

Frequently asked questions
Can I appeal months from last year?
Only outcomes within their 90-day window can be appealed. Older wrongly-declined months are generally lost — one more reason to check your status monthly.
Do I need a lawyer?
