Change your SRD banking details safely
On this page (3 sections)
There is exactly one legitimate way to change SRD payment details: on srd.sassa.gov.za, open “How do I change my banking details”, enter your ID number, and SASSA SMSes a secure link to your registered phone. Follow that link, choose bank account / mobile money / cash collection, and submit. Changes take effect after verification — usually by the next payment cycle.
The process, step by step
- Request the link yourself
Only from srd.sassa.gov.za. The SMS arrives on your registered number — if your number changed, fix that first.
- Open the link and pick your method
Bank account (must be in your own name), mobile money to your registered number, or retail cash collection. Compare the options.
- Enter details exactly
Account number and branch details exactly as your bank lists them. The name on the account must match your ID — that mismatch is the top verification failure.
- Wait for verification
SASSA verifies with the bank. Mid-month changes usually apply to the next cycle; owed months follow as backpay.
Frequently asked questions
How long until the new details are used?
Typically the next payment cycle after verification passes. Status shows bank details pending until then.
Can I switch from card to bank account?
Yes — same process, any time. A bank account in your own name is the fastest, safest option.
The portal says my account failed verification.
Almost always a name/ID mismatch (joint accounts, accounts opened for you by others) — submit an account registered solely to your ID, or choose cash collection.
