“Bank details pending” means you are approved but SASSA can't pay you yet — either you haven't submitted payment details, or the account you gave failed verification. The near-universal cause of failure: the bank account is not in your own name. Approved money is not lost; it accumulates as backpay until this is fixed.

How verification works

When you submit an account, SASSA verifies with the bank that the account is active and registered to your ID number. A spouse's, parent's or friend's account will fail every time — the rule exists to stop grant hijacking. Verification of a valid account typically completes within one payment cycle (up to a few weeks).

Fix it in three steps

  1. Use the official banking link

On srd.sassa.gov.za, find “How do I change my banking details”, enter your ID, and SASSA SMSes a secure link to your registered phone number. Only use that link — never a link someone sends you. Full walkthrough: change banking details.

  2. Submit an account in your own name

Any bank account registered to your ID works. No bank account? Choose the cash option instead — see payment methods for Postbank, mobile money and retail collection.

  3. Wait one cycle, then re-check

Details submitted mid-month usually pay from the next cycle, including any months owed. Still pending after a full cycle? Call 0800 60 10 11.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose the months while details were pending?

No — approved months accumulate and pay out once verification passes. See backpay.

Can I use someone else's account if I trust them?

No. Verification matches the account to your ID number and will fail. Use the cash collection option instead.
