SRD for refugees, asylum seekers and special-permit holders

You can apply for the R370 SRD grant if you hold refugee status (Section 24), an asylum seeker permit (Section 22), or a qualifying special permit — using your file/permit number instead of an SA ID, on the same portal at srd.sassa.gov.za. The eligibility rules (age 18–60, income under R624/month) are the same as for citizens.

How the application differs
- Use the refugee/asylum section of the portal
srd.sassa.gov.za has a dedicated application path for permit holders — don't use the SA-ID form.
- Enter your file number exactly
Use the number exactly as printed on your permit, including format. Mismatches with Home Affairs' refugee system are the top cause of declines here.
- Keep your permit valid
Your monthly assessment checks permit validity. If your permit is in renewal backlog, keep every receipt and extension notice.
