Two different things get called “reapplying”: reconfirmation (SASSA periodically asks existing applicants to confirm their details — required, and payment pauses until you do) and reapplication (starting fresh after you cancelled or your application lapsed). Both happen free at srd.sassa.gov.za in minutes.

How to reconfirm

On srd.sassa.gov.za, open the reconfirmation section, verify with your ID and registered phone number, and re-answer the eligibility questions. Do it promptly: months don't pay while reconfirmation is outstanding, though approved months after you confirm follow the normal cycle.

How to reapply

The process is identical to a first application. Note that payment starts from your new application month — cancelled months in between are not paid retroactively, which is why cancelling is only for genuinely no longer needing the grant.

Frequently asked questions

Why does SASSA ask people to reconfirm at all?

To keep the register current — circumstances change, and reconfirmation plus monthly database checks is how the system verifies ongoing eligibility without paper forms.

I reconfirmed late. Are the missed months gone?

Months where you were assessed and approved pay as backpay; months not assessed because reconfirmation was outstanding are generally not recoverable. Reconfirm the day you're asked.
