SRD is payable only from age 18 up to the month you turn 60. An “age outside range” decline means Home Affairs records place you outside that band. If you have turned 60, this is actually good news: the Older Persons Grant pays roughly six times more.

Is this decline commonly wrong?

Rarely — dates of birth are usually correct. It is wrong only when Home Affairs holds an incorrect birth date for you, which requires a correction at a Home Affairs office before any appeal can succeed.

Evidence that overturns it

  • Your ID document showing your correct date of birth.
  • If the DHA record is wrong: proof of the correction request lodged with Home Affairs.

Under 18? You cannot receive SRD, but your parent or caregiver can claim the Child Support Grant for you, and your household may qualify for other support.

How to appeal

Lodge your appeal on the official appeals portal at srd.dsd.gov.za within 90 days of the outcome — and separately for each month that was declined. The Independent Tribunal re-checks the government databases when it considers your appeal, so if the underlying record is wrong, fix it first where possible.
