A suspended grant is stopped but not dead: you can apply for reinstatement at a SASSA office within 90 days of the suspension, and if the cause is fixed (usually a missed review), payments resume — including the suspended months. Why grants get suspended
- Not attending a review by the deadline — the dominant cause in the current review drive.
- Data-matching findings suggesting undeclared income or means.
- Failure to provide requested documents or complete a medical re-assessment.
- Identity or life-verification issues (including wrongly recorded deaths).
Reinstatement, step by step
- Move fast — the 90 days is from the suspension date
Not from when you noticed. If payments stopped, treat today as day 60, not day 1.
- Go to your SASSA office with your documents
ID, bank statements (3 months), proof/affidavit of income, and whatever the review originally requested. Ask specifically for reinstatement of a suspended grant.
- Complete the outstanding requirement

- Get a receipt and reference
Reinstatement decisions should come within weeks. Approved reinstatements restore the grant including the suspended period.

Will I get the missed months if reinstated?
Yes — successful reinstatement restores payment from suspension, so withheld months pay out.
What if my 90 days already passed?
The grant has lapsed; reinstatement is closed. You must reapply from scratch — do it immediately, since new applications only pay from approval. Meanwhile, bridge the gap.
Can I get SRD while my grant is suspended?
Technically your suspended grant may still block SRD's database check (existing grant decline). Prioritise reinstatement — the permanent grant is worth six times more.
